Ten Study Habits of Straight A Students

  1. Don't allow yourself to get distracted.

Study in a quiet place so you won't get distracted by noises such as people talking or the television. Tell your friends not to call you during your study session, or turn off your cellular phone if you have one. I you get distracted, it will be difficult to get back to work and complete your assignments with just as much effort.

  2. Study in shorter intervals.

Take short breaks while you study, so you will have the mental energy to make studying more effective. If you study for a long period of time, you will tire your brain out and your studying won't be very beneficial.

  3. Plan a time for studying.

Schedule specific times throughout the week to work on schoolwork. This will prevent you from procrastinating and studying for a test or completing a project last minute.

  4. Study around the same time each day.

This will help you start a routine that becomes a regular part of your life, just like sleeping and eating. Having a daily scheduled study time will help you be mentally prepared to begin studying.

  5. Each time you study, set a goal for what you want to accomplish by the end of your study session.

Working towards a goal during your study session will help you stay focused and accomplish more.

  6. Do not procrastinate.

If you procrastinate (delay your studying because you think the assignment is too hard or don't like the assignment), you may rush your work and it will most likely lead to careless work and errors, resulting in a lower grade.

  7. Work on the more difficult assignment first.

Since you need more brain power for your most difficult assignment, start working on it in the beginning of your study session when you have the most mental energy.

  8. Review your notes before you begin an assignment.

Reviewing your notes prior to studying may help you complete an assignment correctly.

  9. When you don't understand an assignment, call a classmate, or ask your teacher before leaving school.

If you don't understand the assignment, how are you supposed to complete it? If you don't understand, ask!

  10. Review your schoolwork over the weekend.

If you spend some time reviewing your schoolwork over the weekend, you will be better prepared on Monday when another school week begins. Don't worry, your weekend will still be fun!
